SLDC Celebration Honors Co-Founder Aleen Agranowitz

Nearly 500 well-wishers gathered on Saturday, June 5, to celebrate the life of SLDC Co-founder Aleen Agranowtiz who passed away on May 10, 2010. Press Telegram columnist Doug Krikorian called her "the Angel of Long Beach" and wrote, "Aleen Agranowitz leaves a saintly legacy of helpfulness, goodness and kindness."

It was clear from the heartfelt comments heard this day both on and off stage, that many others shared Krikorian’s sentiments. Current and former staff members and Board members, as well as parents, clients and students came together to remember some favorite moments.

Former staff members, Board members, friends and supporters gathered to celebrate. Pictured above,

Former State Senator Joe Dunn started the festivities by relating the first time he met Aleen Agranowitz, barely 2 1/2 hours into his tenure as an elected official.

"There are few individuals who just with a phrase can make it a better place. Aleen Agranowitz was one of those people," said Dunn.
